One of the best ways to reduce unwanted behaviors is by having a structured and organized environment. Students know what to expect every day when they walk into my classroom.
Students start misbehaving, talking with their friends, and playing with items in their desks when they are not interested in what the teacher is saying or what the class is doing. I eliminate these behaviors by making lessons fun and engaging for students. I incorporate movement, technology, and opportunities to talk in all of my lessons.
Students are rewarded for on-task behavior, quick transitions, working quietly, or doing anything else that exemplifies being a great student. Students receive tickets that can be turned in for rewards such as lunch in the classroom, extra free time with a friend, or picking your seat for the day.
All students are aware of the classroom rules and understand what they mean because they helped create them. Students know the consequences for breaking the rules.
All students are held to high standards. They know the expectations for independent and group work. When students are pushed to do their best they will step up to the challenge.
