Families will receive monthly newsletters from me on the first of the month. The letter will cover what we will be learning that month, important reminders, upcoming events, and special highlights from the month before.
It is important for families to be contacted when their child demonstrates positive behavior, not just negative behavior. Happy mail is a letter sent home explaining how their child was extra helpful, a great friend, or an excellent student. When students try extra hard they deserve to be recognized and their family should know!
Sometimes things occur in school that families need to be notified about. If a child is misbehaving, bullying others, getting bullied, not completing assignments, has a major change in behavior, or something else major occurs, families must be notified right away. It is important to talk out the problem and have them help in finding a solution appropriate for the individual child. I also want to be sure parents hear from me first so they know nothing is being hidden from them.
A quick letter home is a great way to keep families in the loop. Whether it is for something the students need to bring in, a classroom update, or ways for families to support learning at home, sending a letter ensures the information gets home quickly.
While keeping parents in the know is very important, it is just as important that parents keep me updated with any big changes at home. I stress that I do not need details, but if something is going on at home that will affect one of my students, I encourage families to let me know something is going on. This way I know to be extra patient and give them more love and support. I ask for parents to just send me a note or an email that says "handle with care". They do not share any personal information but still let me know their child may be off.
